Malaysian Tigers (MT) after suffering defeat in the first encounter of the 4th Franchise Cricket Limited Overs. League two weeks ago, came back strongly to chalk up two straight victories over the weekend against Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Tigers (MT) played at the Kinrara. In the first match, UKM batted first on winning the toss. An enterprising opening partnership of 103 runs between Faris Almas Lee (75) and Shafiq Sharif (23) paved the right momentum for the rest of the batsmen to score freely. But that did not happen as Ahmad Faiz (36) and Aliman Ahmad (31) were the only middle-order batsmen to show some fighting qualities in the batting. UKM totaled 254 runs all out in 50 overs. MT’s bowling honours were shared by Hammad Ullah Khan, Rakesh Madhevan and Alankara Asanka who took 2 wickets each costing 31, 35 and 44 runs respectively.
In reply, MT’s opening Sri Lankan batsman, Damith Waruse hit a brilliant century (100) laced with 9 fours and 4 sixes ensured that MT was serious in winning the match. UKM tried 9 bowlers to unsettle their batsmen with Faris Almas lee, Fairuz Hakimi and Shahrul Nizam taking a wicket each. But Rakesh Madhevan (38) and Hammad Ullah Khan (34) chipped in with useful runs as MT totaled 259 runs for 6 wickets in 35.4 overs winning the match by 4 wickets.
In the second match, MT batted first to score 223 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs. Damith Waruse again shone in his batting scoring 72 runs. Ezrafiq Ab. Aziz followed suit with 29 handy runs. Nik Azril captured 4 wickets for 38 runs. Ahmad Faiz, Shahrul Nizam, Haziq Zainuddin and Fairuz Hakimi had a wicket each. UKM collapsed to 129 runs all out with only Shafiq Sharif top scoring with 38 runs. Alankara Asanka took 3 wickets for 24 runs while Ezrafiq Ab. Aziz, Hasan Ghulam, Hammad Ullah Khan chipped in with 2 wickets a-piece giving away 15, 23 and 32 runs respectively. Damith took a wicket for 15 runs. MT won by 94 runs
Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and KLCC squared off in their two match encounter played at the Bayuemas. In the first match RMAF batting first, could only managed to pile up a total of 176 runs in 44.4 overs. Nor Wira (35), Anwar Arudin (26) and Rosman Zakaria (26) were the only batsmen to show some resistance from some tight bowling from KLCC. Chanaka Komasaru wasindevastating form taking 5 wickets for 24 runs. Khizar Hayat took 3 wickets for 17 runs in the rout of RMAF’s paltry innings.
In reply KLCC struggled for runs and were rescued by an unbeaten 49 run, ninth wicket stand between Gulraiz Khan (33 n.o.) and Pervaiz (17 n.o.) before the winning boundary was scored off the fourth ball of the 39th over. Imran Ullah Khan scored 32 runs. Mohd Shahzad and Nor Wira each took 3 wickets giving away 47 and 38 runs respectively while Mohd Shukri Ab. Rahim took 2 wickets for 26 runs. KLCC won by one wicket.
In was RMAF’s turn in the second match to turn the tide in their favour. KLCC batting first collapsed to 138 runs all out in 43.2 overs. Only Pervaiz (62 n.o.) and Gulraiz Khan (11) reached double figures. Sameera took 3 wickets for 15 runs while Nor Wira, Suhairil Fitri and Mohd Nazri RMAF replied with 141 runs for 4 wickets in 39.1 overs to square the match 1-1- by 6 wickets. This was made possible by an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership of 35 runs between Suhairil Fitri (56 n.o.) and Annuar Rudin (17 n.o.). Rosman Zakaria had earlier smashed 32 runs in quick time. Chanada Komasaru took 3 wickets for 19 runs in his ten overs while Khizar Hayat took 1 wicket for 39 runs.
