Darvin Blazes KLCC to Victory
BAYUEMAS OVAL: KLCC made a flying start in the 4th Franchise Cricket League when they defeated Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) by 75 runs on Saturday played at the Bayuemas Oval.
KLCC batted first on winning the toss and amassed a total of 269 runs for 8 wickets at the end of the allotted 50 overs. Opening batsman Darvin Muralitharan hit a brilliant 116 runs, laced with 12 fours and 1 six off 129 balls. He had good support from Naeem Ahmed who hit a breezy 57 runs off 59 balls. UKM spinner Nik Azril took 4 wickets costing 61 runs.
In reply UKM faltered after a fine opening stand of 132 runs between Faris Almas Lee (55) and Shafiq Sharif (74) in 20.5 overs. Thereafter wickets fell like ten pins as Khizar Hayat and Naeem Ahmed created havoc taking three wickets a-piece for 24 and 53 runs respectively. Chanaka Komasaru and Dilawar Abbas had two wickets each costing 21 and 33 runs respectively.
In the second match the following day, KLCC again beat UKM by 65 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
KLCC batted first again on winning the toss. KLCC reached 250 runs all out in 48.5 overs. T.Kodikara top scored with 59 runs. Zahid, Khizir and Dilawar all chipped in with 39, 34 and 32 runs respectively.
Haziq Zainuddin had 3 wickets for 43 runs while Hazrul Zainal, Faroq Hakimi and Sharul Nizam each took 2 wickets costing 25, 34 and 30 runs respectively.
In reply UKM reached 40 runs for 2 wickets in 8.1 overs when the heavens opened up and stopped play. Play was resumed at 4.00 pm with a revised target of 231 runs in 42 overs.
However only Ahmad Faiz (46) and Faris Almas Lee (35) troubled the scorers. They managed to score 165 runs all out in 32.4 overs. Khizar again took the bowling honours taking 3 wickets for 42 runs. Zahid, Naeem and Chanaka each had 2 wickets giving away 22, 25 and 27 runs respectively.
Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and Malaysian Tigers will play two matches against each other in a 50 Over format on February 9 and 10 at the same venue
The total number of preliminary round matches for the tournament is 12. Two top teams after the preliminary rounds will qualify to meet in the finals. A prize money of RM10,000 will be awarded to the Champions while the losing finalist will get RM5000.
In addition subsidiary titles such as the Best Batsman, Best Bowler and the Man of the Series will each be awarded a cash prize of RM500.
